Amidst the travel chaos that has been caused throughout the world by the Covid-19 outbreak, Air Canada is the first airline to announce it will resume flights to Athens from Toronto and Montreal.

The easing of travel restrictions on Canadian citizens led to Air Canada’s decision to resume its service— something US airlines s still can’t do.

Incoming flights from Toronto are scheduled for every Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday and from Montreal every Thursday and Sunday. Since the lockdown in mid-March, these will be the first non-stop flights from North America to Greece.

Summer is the season children enjoy most because they have a lot of free time. So much so that they often spend several hours in front of a screen. I get lots of questions from concerned parents asking me how to handle this, how to set a schedule. After all the pressure children faced during the quarantine period parents are a bit confused. Should they push their kids or should they just let them free to do what they want?

So what do you do? I’d say “yes” to a flexible schedule. What does that mean? Make a relaxed daily program but do not push your children or yourself. No need to follow it to the letter, just have fun. We all need vacation; we all need to relax!

It’s an absolute must to “plan” free time without activities during the day. We leave time so that both kids and parents get bored. This way we will all get into the process of thinking about what we like, what we want to do, and actually get into doing what we want. Leaving our imagination free we can relax and at the same time get ideas, find solutions.

"But then my child won’t study at all during summer and he/she will forget everything" is a typical comment I often get. I’d say another big “yes” to reading extracurricular books that attract their interest and let their imagination run wild! But children need rest, just like adults do. Would you want to work during your vacation? And please do yourselves a favor and go back to the time when you were a child. Do you remember how you enjoyed spending your summer vacation? Let them play, run, bike, enjoy the sea, the mountains. This way they will “recharge their batteries” so they’ll be ready to go back to schooling and studying from September onwards.

Summer also offers an excellent opportunity to observe your child as a personality without time or school restraints. What is the activity or activities they choose to spend more time with? How does he/she behave when they are relaxed? How does he/she like to be treated? What are the areas they need your help with and what not? What do they like to do together with you?

Summer gives us a good opportunity to get to know our children better and to help them become independent and make their decisions on some of the issues that concern them.

Aeschylus' ancient Greek play "The Persians," is the first ancient Greek drama production to be live-streamed to a global audience. The performance will be presented in remembrance of the 25th centennial of the Battle of Salamis. "The Persians" dramatizes the naval battle of Salamis–one of the most critical battles in human history and is Aeschylus' most pacifist play.

The play will be streamed live on July 25 at 21.00 Athens time (GMT +2), in partnership with Google Greece, and will be available worldwide–except Greece–exclusively through YouTube. The screening is free of charge; however, donations are welcome. Proceeds and donations will go to the National Theatre and the Greek actors who have been affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The play will be perfomed in Greek with English subtitles and will be available through livefromepidaurus.gr, the National Theatre of Greece, the Athens & Epidaurus Festival, the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the National Theatre of Greece's YouTube channel.

The National Theatre of Greece presents a masterpiece of Greek Literature entitled “My mother’s sin” by Georgios Vizyenos, adapted as theatrical play and performed in English. It is presented as part of the new initiative by the Greek Ministry of Culture “All of Greece, one Culture”, in a number of awe-inspiring ancient theatres as well as impressive archaeological sites in Attica and Peloponnese (Eleusina, Salamina, Nafplio, Epidaurus, and Mycenae).

Georgios Vizyenos’ short story My Mother’s Sin (1883) is presented in English in order to bring this masterpiece of modern Greek literature to a wider audience. Vizyenos’ material draws on personal and family memories, and the traditions and experiences of ordinary life in Eastern Thrace, interpreting them through the prism of his own intellect and education.

The performance has been hosted with great success in leading academic institutions in the United States (Harvard University, Yale University, New Haven, Columbia University, New York, Tampa, and the University of Illinois at Chicago) over the last two years (2018-2019).

The events are offered free of charge by the Ministry of Culture and Sports. The only admission fee is the cost of the ticket to enter each site. Booking is mandatory and will be through the Digital Culture platform.

This July we’re taking a dive into transportative images, powerful stories, and emotional thrills with a series of digital premieres screening exclusively on the Onassis Foundation YouTube channel. A screen, however small, is all you need to enjoy new experiences and moments as seen through the eyes of both accomplished and up-and-coming filmmakers. It is a window onto the world of great cinema, with award-winning films, collaborations with major festivals in Greece and around the world, and rare films being shown for the first time online.

Films from Lebanon are being premiered in collaboration with the Cannes Film Festival, along with short films created by ONASSIS FOUNDATION Scholars. Collaborations with the ATHENS International Film Festival Opening Nights and the Drama International Short Film Festival will be bringing us award-winning Greek short films from 2019. And this cinematic experience doesn’t end there: talks on the seventh art by acclaimed directors such as Werner Herzog, as well as a series of original works each created by up-and-coming artists – such as Vasilis Kekatos, Yorgos Zois, and Evi Kalogiropoulou – in 120 hours as part of the ENTER project, make clear that cinema at the ONASSIS FOUNDATION never stops surprising us, inspiring us, and carrying us away.

Phoenix Athens is delighted to announce the opening of Out of the cube, Into the Green. The exhibition features works by Stefanos Kornilios and Pavlos Palourias of Nilware, Vasilis Galanis, Karl Heinz Jeron, Ioanna Lin, Eleni Tsamadia and Dimitri Yin.

The garden continues to be a source of inspiration as well as a sanctuary from the urban grind of daily life in the city and while the COVID-19 restrictions forced many cultural institutions and galleries to slow their pace, the gardens and green spaces in Athens have continued with their cycles of growth and decay. This reflects the ongoing creativity, innovation, and resilience of artists who are able to demonstrate their capacity to think outside the box and the asepticized white cube spaces of galleries and museums.

For this exhibition, the artists explore the garden as a physical as well as a metaphysical place where new ideas, forms, and perspectives may take root and grow. This exhibition aims to help us to re-evaluate our relationship with nature and re-imagine the gallery and the art space as a rhizomatic extension for public engagement where extraordinary discussions around society and the ecology are encouraged to take root and grow over time.

Panopoulos runs a successful Athens-based company specializing in the design and production of high-specification performance car parts with cutting-edge internal combustion engine technology. His skills, expertise, and his love for Greece have led him to start an original car manufacturing project.

The prototype that Panopoulos plans to bring to life called chaos after the ancient Greek word, which signifies a pre-cosmogony abyss. With its never-before-seen horsepower of 3000 and other breakthrough features, chaos will become a game-changer for the international automotive scene.

Until now, the project has been self-financed by Panopoulos, but he is negotiating for a bank loan to help him set up the colossal infrastructure required for a production unit. Even though Panopoulos has received financing offers from abroad, he declares his commitment to keeping the project completely Greek.

Chaos' exterior and engineering have been finalized, while the interior is currently being manufactured. Panopoulos aims to take his car to the prestigious Geneva International Motor Show in 2021!
