Bobby Watson is a great personality of modern jazz and of course a special sax player, who chose to function creatively in the post-bop jazz tradition, always offering powerful and beautiful music with a swing and blues feeling. His talent was evident since early on–since Art Blakey took him in his legendary group and soon gave him the artistic/musical administration.

The Jazz Messenger
So, by the end of the 70’s to the early 80’s, Bobby Watson was Blakey’s right hand in Jazz Messengers –the same time that Wynton Marsalis made his first steps there. After that, Watson had a clear and rising career cooperating with Curtis Lundy, George Coleman, Charlie Persip, Louis Hayes, Sam Rivers, Max Roach and more, showing an expressive comfort in a variety of musical styles. This is also proved by his personal discography, in a number of different companies (Enja, Red, New Note, Blue Note, Evidence, Columbia, Palmetto etc) with amazingly performing groups, such as ‘Horizon’. Performance that remains till today - and with Bobby Watson always offering great music…
