In order to encourage the development of young golfers in Greece and to nurture their talent within the proper learning environment, the Glyfada Golf Club of Athens has recognized the need for establishing a Junior Club section on a formal basis. This initiative is in line with the club’s recent agreement with the Faldo Foundation to establish and organize an annual ”Hellenic Faldo Series Junior Golf Championship” for the next three years. Additionally, of course, the club seeks to create the conditions necessary to improve the abilities of the best young players in the country, with a view to producing a national team of sufficient strength in depth to compete internationally by 2016, when golf is set to be re-introduced to the Olympic Games Programme.
As a first step, the club invites all parents, supporters, teachers and members who would be willing to volunteer time and experience to the effort, to attend a meeting to discuss ideas and formalize an initial programme, to be held at the club on:
Friday, the 15th of January, 2010 at 5pm
It is hoped that a number of experienced, regular members of the club will assist by volunteering their time to “mentor” younger players who are just now being introduced to the game of golf. Additionally, the club would welcome members offering surplus clubs, bags, balls and accessories in good condition to assist in this initiative.
