Friends of Canada
DESCRIPTION
Friends of Canada is an informal network that began in 2011, December, at a Cosy Canadian Christmas Coffee hosted at the official Canadian residence in Athens. Our main purpose is to facilitate the exchange of Canadian-related information, as well as to encourage old-fashioned camaraderie. Membership is free (we have approximately 600 members), and all nationalities are welcome to join. Our Canada Nights are particularly positive in spirit: we break bread, catch up with friends, and/or listen to a set speaker - as well as laugh and have fun!
Newsletter:
We regularly email free notices about our own events, as well as send out other Canadian-related news sent to us by our not-for-profit, embassy-related affiliates, for example, the Canadian Embassy in Greece, the Canadian Institute in Greece, the Hellenic Canadian Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian University Graduates in Greece.
Events:
Canada Nights are held a couple of times a year, usually at Christmas and Easter. We also traditionally host a special informal Canada Day celebration in the summer. Our Welfare Network (which collaborates with the Salvation Army) often collects items for those in need at our events.
Membership:
There is no membership fee, with an individual ‘pay as you go’ policy at events. Special care is taken to keep participation costs to a minimum, and to use venues close to the metro line. To join up and receive our free electronic newsletter, please send all of the following information to friendsofcanada.greece@gmail.com (your confidentiality will be respected):
• your full name
• nationality
• city of residence in Greece
• email address
• mobile phone number
• home phone number
• facebook name (if you have one)
Facebook:
Besides registering, do also ‘like’ us at https://www.facebook.com/athens.thessaloniki.
