As we all know it all started here...in Greece... Did you know that the first burger was served in Athens back in 1886? That was the city called "Athens", in Texas, USA... Fletcher Davis, a native of Athens, Texas, was the one who invented the hamburger and served it for the first time to his customers. It is now our turn here in our Athens of 2013 to serve this world-wide popular meal using the famous recipe. 

For all of us, perfect-burger-lovers! Great value for money in an unpretentious, friendly space. Hearty portions, genuine, juicy taste, country fries, veggie burgers, and specialties like the Athens burger with feta sauce, make this burger place an excellent choice.

This is one of the delicious contradictions of Athens. Located in one of the most touristic places, near the bus terminal for the Acropolis, this rooftop restaurant is nonetheless tourist-free. It opens late (after dark) and you need to take the lift to get to it. Minimal signage ensures it's patronised only by people who know it's there - theatre types, politicians and the society crowd.

Da Bruno is an historical Italian Restaurant, located in South Athens (Palio Faliro) for over 2 decades now (23 years!). It's one of the oldest & most famous Italian Restaurants not only in the area, but all over Athens. All the items of the menu are excellent and cooked with the most Italian Traditional Way! I've visited the restaurant my self like 20 times so far and each time had something new to surprise me.

To sit in the center of Athens and sigh from hunger and enthusiasm eating hot bread with delicious Greek sausages and cheese. Can you? Yes, you can! At Boufo, the salami bar that is housed in a beautiful 1920s neoclassical building in Karori Street on the edge of the trendy square Agia Irini.

2 Mazi (“Dio Mazi”) formerly Laboratory Baxevanis, is conveniently found in Syntagma Square, downtown Athens. The two chefs, Yiannis Baxevanis and Ilias Gogos, returned to the kitchen and have created some experimental dishes- the two chefs work together, sometimes competing for ideas, but always enjoying the art they love most: creating food. The restaurant itself is a small and hospitable building with clean plain lines and a bar for simple and enjoyable dining. 2 Mazi can also deliver ot your work place or home in the afternoon.

The center of Athens may have had the first wine bars of the city but now they can be found in Chalandri, Kifisia, Glyfada and in other areas of Athens. Floyd, in Cholargo, combines modern and classic elements with over 50 wine labels to date.

The affluent sushi addicts of Athens seem to agree that Kiku is by far the best Japanese restaurant in town. The beautifully designed dining room is the appropriate venue for the skilfully prepared dishes that include a variety of sushi and sashimi. The restaurant also serves tempura, sukiyaki and other Japanese specialties of the highest quality that can be washed down with Kiku's excellent sake. Japanese customers are offered a separate menu that includes additional dishes.

Named after a smelly British cheese, Stinking Bishop is one of the most unique bars/gastropubs in Athens. Located in the upscale Kolonaki area, Stinking Bishop is mostly frequented by local residents and people who work nearby. Its decoration is warm and welcoming, and its small size accentuates the sense of intimacy–there’s only 3 tables and a long counter so make sure to book your table well in advance.

Expect to try some carefully selected cheeses from Greece, France, Holland and England, delicious cold cuts, as well as a few salads and tasty main courses.

Stinking Bishop offers an extensive wine list of approximately 50 different labels, several of which are also served by the glass. The friendly and courteous staff will help you pair your food with the ideal wine!

One of the most authentic places for an alfresco dinner in Plaka is Xynos. Once you have managed to find the rather hidden entrance of this traditional taverna, you will discover the serene garden in the backyard where the tables have been set up.
