Ionian Islands Region Requests for Corfu to be Included in Guinness Book of Records

The Region of Ionian Islands recently submitted a request to the Guinness Book of Records seeking for Corfu’s recognition as the island with the most musicians and philharmonic bands per capita.

Submitted by the region’s governor, Rodi Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou, the request was made to celebrate Corfu’s rich musical heritage and cultural vibrancy.

According to an announcement by the Region, the recognition would not only spotlight Corfu’s musical legacy but also underscore its commitment to safeguarding its cultural heritage for generations to come.

“What we are proud of should be known throughout the world as it will attract admiration and appeal from the world community… It will also strengthen our efforts to preserve our tradition and contemporary creativity, ” said Kratsa-Tsagaropoulou.

Corfu boasts an impressive ensemble of 18 philharmonic orchestras, supported by 2,300 musicians. Additionally, 1,400 philharmonic orchestra students are currently nurturing their musical talents, further bolstering the island’s claim to the distinction.
