In this exhibition, Mary Chatzaki is presenting her photographic records during the restoration of ancient monuments on the islet of Despotiko, near Antiparos, where, as revealed by the excavations, lie the ruins of a sanctuary, which used to be renowned all over Ancient Greece.
Louisa Karapidaki, curator of the exhibition, remarks: “Chatzaki’s photographic captures pay homage to the material and immaterial aspect of people’s toil. True samples of documentary photography, they seek to call the viewer’s attention to the unseen and largely unknown aspects of a painstaking, almost unimaginable, task: that of the restoration of an ancient monument.”

The opening of the exhibition includes a lecture in Greek by Yannos Kourayos, Archaeologist, Ephorate of Antiquities of Cyclades, Ministry of Culture and Director of the excavation at Despotiko.
Following the opening at the Hellenic American Union, the exhibition will travel to the USA to be presented at the Greek Consulate in New York on October 10, 2019.
