Oman Air Connects Athens and Muscat
Oman Air, the national carrier of the Sultanate of Oman, recently began its new daily route between Athens and Muscat, on Sunday, June 2.
The flight is the only non-stop service between Greece and Oman and is expected to benefit both business and leisure travelers, as well as the Greek community in Oman.
Through Oman Air's hub, the new service offers seamless connections to the airline's other destinations.

Athens Photo Festival 2019
The Athens Photo Festival 2019 is inaugurated on Thursday, June 13 at the Benaki Museum/Pireos 138. This year’s Festival comprises photographic artwork, videos and installations by 132 emerging and established artists from 30 countries, encouraging artistic, social and political dialogue, as well as experimentation with related media. The Festival’s exhibition program is spread at the two floors of the Benaki Museum, as well as in 10 more venues in Athens.
Α wide range of activities –screenings, educational programs, talks, performances, social networking projects and parallel events– is at the core of this year’s programming, composing a dynamic platform that shows up contemporary photography practice and integration with the cultural community at large.
International experts and photographers are invited from all around the world, rendering the Festival an opportunity for gathering and cooperation of cultural bodies and institutions from different countries, aiming to artistic synergies and exchange.

Athens Gardens Festival
The festival was born in the gardens of Athens and has been taking place since 2013 in the National Gardens of the city!
This year’s version is a contest between small music ensembles, performed inside the National Garden and on the gardens of the Center of Arts in Eleftherias Park. During the 14th, 15th and 16th of June, the participating music ensembles are going to be presented in the National Garden (morning) and the Center of Arts (evening) Melodies from the worldwide anthology of the classical, romantic, impressionistic, modern and neoclassical music are going to be played.
Athens Gardens Festival 2019 is co-hosted by the Athens Art Network and the Organization of Culture, Sports and Youth of the municipality of Athens.
Shedia Home: A Hub For Employment, Empowerment, And Social Change
The anticipated launch of Shedia Home was announced last week. Shedia Home is run by the publishers of the Shedia street magazine which is sold on the streets by certified vendors from vulnerable social groups, guaranteeing them a decent income.
“It’s funny how a cliche can have such resonance, but it does. We’re open and we’re waiting for you!”
Shedia Home is a space that aims to become a hub of social innovation and to offer support to vulnerable residents of the Greek capital.
Located on the corner of Kolokotroni & Nikiou streets in the historic center, Shedia Home is an inspirational initiative and already one of the coolest spots in Athens. It is a multifunctional space, spread across its 4 floors you will find an art workshop, an exhibition hall, a store, a cafe-bar, and a restaurant. Awarded chef Lefteris Lazarou has designed a delicious menu while his associate Yiannis Yfantidis spent several months training the team of Shedia members on how to prepare the dishes perfectly.
Almost 30 people, many of whom were left homeless and without work at some point in their lives will be employed at Shedia Home. The objective, says Christos Alefantis, the magazine’s editor in chief, is to “energize, empower, train and create job opportunities for the poorest of the poor of this country.”
The primary donor for this great initiative is the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, alongside Tima Foundation, Visa Hellas, and Caritas.

FokiaNou Art Space “State of Water”: Lynne Buchanan & Alegia Papageorgiou

FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present “State of Water”, a two-person show featuring photography by Lynne Buchanan and video and installation by Alegia Papageorgiou, two artists who share a concern for the current dire state of the environment. Originally hailing from Florida, Lynne Buchanan’s beautiful photographs document the effects of climate change in Iceland, Patagonia, Bangladesh and Antarctica, as well as across the United States, juxtaposing details from opposite ends of the earth. Alegia Papageorgiou’s installation, “the repairing earth project”, presents small scale clay landscapes similar to the earth's surfaces, that change constantly as water is introduced, depicting man’s relationship to the natural environment. Her video/installation, “La Poubelle" is a creature constructed from garbage, a wandering female figure in a setting of raging waves on inhospitable rocks. The exhibition is curated by Mary Cox and Panagiotis Voulgaris.
Award winning photographer Lynne Buchanan has had several solo exhibitions in Florida and has participated in numerous group shows around the United States. George F. Thompson Publishing recently published her book Florida’s Changing Waters: A Beautiful World in Peril. Lynne holds a Bachelors Degree and a Masters Degree in Art History, as well as a Masters in English with a concentration in creative writing and a Masters of Business Administration. She understands the issues facing our waterways from multiple perspectives and communicates them through her photographs and writing. She has mentored and studied with many notable photographers including Sam Abell, Clyde Butcher, Dewitt Jones and Jill Enfield, among others. http://www.lynnebuchanan.com/
Alegia Papageorgiou is a visual artist and scenographer based in Athens but also working in the Netherlands, the U.K., and other European countries. She earned a BA in Interior Design from Vakalo College of Arts & Design, Athens, University of Derby UK and an MA in Scenography from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, University of London. She is currently enrolled in a second Master’s program at The Royal Academy of Arts, Royal Conservatory, The Hague. Alegia’s work in scenography includes video, photography, lighting, video projection mapping, audio editing, electronics hacking, scenic art, sculpture and other forms of technical support. Among other projects, she was involved in the world premiere of Edward Bond’s "Dea", The Secombre Theater, Sutton UK; the National Theater of Greece; Athens Biennale; Festival of Athens and Epidaurus, Comedie de Reims gallery, London, Sonic Acts festival, Amsterdam, and has participated in art exhibitions in Greece and abroad.
FokiaNou Art Space is an artist-run project space in the intimacy of a small apartment in an old building in the center of Athens that encourages collaborative creative efforts between Greek and foreign artists, thereby promoting and supporting the local art community. Greece Wins Presidency Of The UNWTO Commission for Europe
Greece has been named the new chairing country of the UNWTO Commission for Europe (CEU) for the period 2019-2021 according to an announcement made by the Greek Ministry of Tourism, last week.
Founded in 195 the CEU is one of the six subsidiary organs of the UNWTO General Assembly. The UNWTO's commissions cover the following six regions of the world: Africa, Europe, the Americas, East Asia and the Pacific, the Middle East and South East Asia.
Following a unanimous vote, the 40 member states elected Greece for the presidency of the CEU during the organization's 64th CEU Meeting in Zagreb, Croatia.
"With Greece's election to the chair of the UNWTO's CEU, the tourism ministry implements the strategic aim of Greece having a more active presence and essential role in discussions with international tourism bodies, as well as a strong representation abroad," the Greek tourism ministry's announcement said.
The result of the vote will be confirmed at the 23rd UNWTO General Assembly in St. Petersburg, Russia in September.

Since opening its doors ten years ago, the Acropolis Museum has highlighted the close relationship between the famous sculptures it displays and the monuments from which they originate. It is with great pleasure that the Museum is hosting an exceptional exhibition of photographs of the marble craftsmen of the Acropolis at work. Imbued with a new curatorial spirit, the exhibition was initially organized by the Committee for the Conservation of the Acropolis Monuments and the Acropolis Restoration Service. The exhibition takes place in the ground floor Temporary Exhibition Gallery. Entrance will be free.
Lecture “The true colors of the Parthenon sculptures: evidence for traces of original polychromy and its interpretation”

The Acropolis Museum will host a lecture of the Italian professor Giovanni Verri on the polychromy of the Parthenon sculptures, which has long been the subject of scholarly research and this debate has continued now for almost two centuries. Giovanni Verri is a Reader at the Courtauld Institute of Art, London. He holds a PhD in Physics from the University of Ferrara in Italy, and an MA in Conservation of Wall Paintings from the Courtauld Institute of Art in London. Throughout his career, he has endeavored to develop scientific techniques for the analysis of color, in particular on Greek and Roman antiquities. The lecture will take place in the ground floor Auditorium and entrance will be free.
Music concert ‘Stavros Xarchakos – Instrumental’

The Acropolis Museum invites its visitors to a unique instrumental concert by the great Greek composer Stavros Xarchakos and an orchestra of eight renowned Greek soloists. Stavros Xarchakos and the orchestra will take visitors on a musical journey comprising familiar compositions of Stavros Xarchakos, Mikis Theodorakis, Vasilis Tsitsanis, Markos Vamvakaris and Manos Hadjidakis. On this day the Museum will extend its opening hours until midnight. Entrance will be free from 8 p.m. onwards.
10 Years Acropolis Museum Celebration

Celebrating The Acropolis Museum’s birthday, entrance to the exhibition areas will be free from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m.
From Friday 21 June 2019 onwards, the archaeological excavation will be open to the public with the general admission fee ticket. The excavated area of 4,000 sq. meters comprises houses, workshops, baths and streets of an ancient Athenian neighborhood that existed from the classical to the Byzantine years, in successive phases. This impressive archaeological site will soon be enriched with the most representative findings of the excavation. Architectural ruins will be organized in a unique exhibition set that sheds light on the everyday life of an ancient neighborhood that existed in the shadow of the Acropolis. On this day the Museum exhibition areas will be open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Which Areas Are Being Registered?
More than half of Greece is currently under registration since November 19, 2018. Areas including Kalymnos, Karpathos, Ioannina, Lefkada, Kastoria, Nafpaktos, Kefallonia, the Peloponnese, Ikaria, and Chios are among a few - property owners, be alert!
Since deadlines for submission vary so and are subject to change, please visit the Hellenic Cadastre for further information.
Athens Municipality property owners, please note that you will be receiving notifications to double check your property declarations for any false information.
The deadline for amendments in Athens as well as submitting new declarations for those of you that have forgotten to do so, is June 24, 2019.
What Documents Do I Need To Submit?
Depending on how the ownership was acquired, documents needed may differ. The necessary documents, however, include the following:
1. Application Form - online or hard-copy when physically submitted
2. Title Ownership - photocopy or scanned when submitting online
3. Land survey when applicable
4. Greek Identification Card or Passport Information
It is essential to indicate the location of your property, and if recent topography surveys with coordinates are not available, you can visit the official website www.ktimatologio.gr to identify your property.
Why Register?
The Greek government will be entitled to ownership rights for any 'unknown' property that has never been declared.
Furthermore, the Ktimatologio is one of the many 'fast-tracking' property laws since 2010 that will all connect and be linked to the Electronic Building Code ID to be implemented in the near future.

Street Artist Dedicates Mural To The Mati Wildfire Victims
The Greek street artist who goes by the name 'Hambas' has recently created a touching mural on the wall of an elementary school in Rafina, eastern Attica.
His touching tribute to the 102 victims of the 2018 fire in Mati depicts a bright-eyed boy holding a branch of 102 heart-shaped fruits, symbolizing each of the victims of the dreadful wildfire.
The blazes in Mati are the second-deadliest fires so far in the 21st century, after the 'Black Friday' bushfires in Australia, which claimed the lives of 180 people in 2009.
