FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present “Fluidity”, an exhibition in which two artists seamlessly traverse realms of reality and imagination, one through a combination of analog and digital photography and video, and the other through intricate pencil drawings on wood sculptures.

Bourbou’s ongoing photography project, entitled “ILLUSION, or the eighth place”, inspired by Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet, imagines realistic landscapes by the sea through the prism of utopia. Some works are hand-printed; others are digitally processed in high contrast and some use double figures, collage, ink and acrylics. Pappas’ sketches portray the ephemerality and immutability of existence through limbs and visages melting like butter, fluid contours and distortions. His two and three-dimensional works serve as a metaphor for rejuvenation and metamorphosis.

Hours: Thursday - Saturday 17.00 – 20.00

20 years of digital revolution in Athens. A unique immersive experience.

The Athens Digital Arts Festival, the first and largest international platform for digital arts in Greece, celebrates two decades of creativity and digital innovation in contemporary art with a special anniversary edition at two iconic venues in the heart of Athens. From May 16 to May 26, 2024, the Former Santaroza Courthouse and Justice Square will be transformed into a vibrant stage of artistic expression and technological experimentation, hosting the 20th Athens Digital Arts Festival under the title "TECHNO(S)CENE.”

ADAF 2024: TECHNO(S)CENE honors the rich history of digital art and the festival while also focusing on the future of digital culture. Inspired by concepts such as the technocene era and technoscience, as well as the dynamic scene of digital culture, this year's event explores the profound impact of technology on our lives, recognizing it not only as a tool but also as a pervasive force that shapes perceptions, creative expressions, and our very existence.

Artists, scientists, technologists, and intellectuals from diverse backgrounds and communities forge a rich program of immersive experiences in a venue with a rich history: the Former Santaroza Courthouse at Justice Square. Once dominated by the explosive sounds of the working machines of the National Printing House in the 19th century and serving as a meeting point for Athenian society throughout the 20th century, it is now being transformed into a lively hub of creativity.

At the 20th Athens Digital Arts Festival, artists redefine the boundaries of human creativity, creating mesmerizing digital landscapes that leave the audience in awe. Impressive installations, special performances, and captivating screenings, talks, and tributes create a multidimensional experience for the audience around digital culture. Whether humans, artificial intelligence, or hybrids, the creators offer different perspectives on the transformative power of technology, sparking dialogue about the future of art, science, and society in the age of the digital revolution.

With over 3.000 artistic proposals from 106 countries and distinguished guests from the international art scene, the 20th Athens Digital Arts Festival promises a unique multimedia experience of digital art, embodying the spirit of innovation, creativity, and inclusivity that has defined the festival for two decades.

Join us in celebrating the digital revolution at the "stage" of the 20th Athens Digital Arts Festival.

The detailed program and ticket sales will be announced soon at 2024.adaf.gr.

A musical farce that dares to Question

THEATER OF THE NO, Athens newest English-speaking theatre, presents «THE LAST LUNCH», a musical tragicomedy, written by Yoel Wulfhart, directed by Manos Tsotras and musical composition by Ian Blunsdon. Opening for the first time outside America on Thursday, May 17th, for a limited run through to June 24th, the production promises a blend of laughter, wit and wisdom.

A surreal, modernist farce, a menu of laughter and food for thought, that shines a light on the lives we hope and pretend to live. Set in a world where Jesus walks among us, teaching selfless love, while confronting human indifference and selfishness, the play delves into the complexities of existence with humor and insight.

At the “table” of THE LAST LUNCH Jesus arrives to save and elevate his people, but they baptize him in a mop bucket, are unable or unwilling to love, offer up prayers with selfish motives, and are obsessed with money, sex and personal success. As a result, He decides to spend his time playing Sudoku and avoiding talk of a “Second Coming”.

"Vanity of vanities, 'all is vanity'?" The play confronts this existential question head- on, challenging audiences to reconsider their perspectives on life, joy, and meaning.

Our menu promises an experience that serves more than just food. "You might not get what you want, but you won’t get what you expect either, and you definitely won’t think the same way again" teases Wulfhart.

  • 8 workshops
  • Nook of stories for young and old bookworms ... and much more!
The Festival kicks off on Friday 24th May with a quintessential Outdoor Irish Trad Session. A session is not a gig, it is an open to all, musical and social gathering of musicians who play accoustically. Followed by ethereal polyphonic all female group, Asma Cordis, which means song of the heart. They love traditional singing but also adding innovations. After that, we welcome on stage Φaretra Crystallina, an ensemble that pairs classical and traditional music with a rock twist. Now it is time to start dancing with Irish traditional tunes and songs by Plump and our first Irish ensemble. The fiery fiddles of Aidan Connolly and Shane Meehan are backed by Patrick Egan’s concertina and multi-instrumentalist Caoimhín Ó Fearghail.

On Saturday 25th May we start early with music and dance games for children, inspired by Irish customs, facilitated by experienced Eleni Geraki. After that, we will journey to Ireland, Scotland and the Appalachian mountains with songs of love, exile, the sea and nature by Curfá Gaelic- Nordic Choir, followed by an all female Irish Ensemble with Clíodhna Begley playing the viola, Maëlla Roué Demians from Brittany playing the flute and Siobhan Butler dancing Sean Nós . Then, Irial O’Ceallaigh will enchant us with traditional Sean Nós singing, with musical backing from Caoimhín Ó Fearghail. Saturday will end with all of our Irish guests going up on stage for a unique and celebratory Irish fiesta. Musicians that will appear: Aidan Connolly, Shane Meehan,Clíodhna Begley, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, Dom Keogh, Irial O’ Ceallaigh, Patrick Egan, Liam McGoniggle, Maëlla Roué Demians and Siobhan Butler will dance Sean Nós. We will hear the atmospheric polyphonic folk group Tale Tellers and right after we fill the park with the sounds of community and singing from their Irish repertoire, before the deep and entrancing Celtic/Scandinavian music of Athens-based band Sólastas (Labrini Astrid Andersson Gioti: vocals, nyckelharpa, repertoire, Becka Wolfe: violin, viola, vocals, Antonis Pantazis: Irish mandolin, mandola, vocals, Orestis Gargoulakis: flute, tin whistle, vocals, John Tikof: guitar, vocals) and ending with a second Ensemble of our Irish guests (Aidan Connolly, Pádraig Keane, Fergus McGorman, Clíodhna Begley).

Finally, on Sunday 26th May, the last day of the Festival once again starts with an enticing all female polyphonic folk group, the Samodivas who love medieval, celtic and world music. After this, we will hear the deep and entrancing Celtic/Scandinavian music of Athens-based band Sólastas, created by ethnomusicologist Labri Giotti who sings and plays a unique instrument, the nyckelharpa. Upbeat quintet Noriana, the name of a fairy, will take the stage afterwards and treat us to jigs and reels entwined with their own fresh musical idiom. The festival closes with another Irish Ensemble: Shane Meehan playing the fiddle, τον Liam McGonnigle on the accordion, Dom Keogh beating his bodhran and Siobhan Butler dancing Sean Nós.

Throughout the festival, our Artisan’s Market will feature a range of stalls where you can find a variety of uniquely-crafted designs, prints, artefacts, jewellery and enchanting items. This year, we are joined again by Soul Twinkles Publications who are presenting an Irish version of their Role-Playing Game ‘Mythic Revolutions’.

In keeping with the Bardic tradition of Ireland, guests will have the opportunity to read fairytales at our signature ‘Nook of Stories’ with a few…feathered additions. They can go on a treasure hunt around the park to find our hidden stories and also trace the Fairy Path!

There are also educational workshops of singing, dance and musical instruments to choose from, on Saturday and Sunday. They will take place on festival grounds and have a small donation that goes directly to the Irist artists. Reservations are required.

On Sunday 26 May 2024, the Acropolis Museum participates in the pan-hellenic cultural action titled “Green Cultural Routes”, organized by the Ministry of Culture, offering its visitors the thematic presentation “Exploring nature’s elements at the Acropolis Museum”. Protagonists will be special objects of the Museum that ‘speak’ about the four elements of nature that were reflected into art in different ways. Beliefs, myths, philosophical concerns, as well as simple daily needs find their expression in shape and image in elaborate lamps, mythical demons and ritual vessels. Museum archaeologists tell stories made of fire, earth, air and water -sometimes destructive and other times life-giving - sounding the alarm about the negative interaction between man and nature.

Information:

Sunday 26/5: 10 a.m. in English and 1 p.m. in Greek
Duration: 90 minutes
Participation: This special thematic presentation is offered free of charge and a free admission ticket is required from the Museum Ticket Desk (limited to 30 visitors per session).
