Blues Diffusion Live At Theatre of the No
Prepare for an evening of Authentic Blues as « Blues Diffusion» takes the stage at Theatre of the No on Friday, January 17th at 22.30. Featuring the talents of Dimitris Ioannou, Vangelis Maglaras, Zoi Zioga, and Antonis Panopoulos, this dynamic group brings their passion and expertise together to celebrate the timeless power of the Blues.
Vangelis Maglaras (Vocals, Electric Guitar): A powerhouse in Athens' music scene and the creative force behind Blues Diffusion, known for his fiery guitar sound and emotive performances. He is a founding member of Soul Walkers, Strangers, Devotion Band, and Evangelos Maglaras and the Blues Scale.
Zoi Zioga (Bass): A seasoned musician with vast experience in Rock and Blues music, recognized for her collaborations with top artists such as Vangelis Vekios (founder of Mousikes Taxiarchies), Elelef, Simos Kokavesis, and The Holly Cucumbers, among others
Antonis Panopoulos (Guitar, Vocals): Antonis began as the lead guitarist for Vavouras band and a collaborator with Panousis' Taxiarchies group. After discovering Blues Cargo in 1998, he embraced the Blues, founding bands like Blues 13, Blues Therapy, and Tony Dollar Band. Notable performances include opening for Guitar Shorty at the 2014 Blues Soul Festival in Poreta, Bologna.
Dimitris Ioannou (Drums, Vocals, bassist, singer): A founding member of the legendary Blues Cargo, Dimitris is a bassist and vocalist who has been part of the Blues scene since 1987. With a rich history of collaborations particularly with American Blues musicians. Dimitris has now returned to his long-time love: the drums.

FokiaNou Art Space: Destination Athens, Group Exhibition
Since ancient times, Athens has attracted people to visit, live, or study. From the early post-war years, Athens became a tourist destination, with iconic buildings such as the Hilton symbolizing this effort, even if it usually functioned as just a stopover before the islands. But in recent years, the city has experienced an unprecedented tourist boom. For some foreigners, the city has become a place of residence, from digital nomads to artists and curators. The city is changing at a rapid pace; empty buildings have taken on new life and form; businesses are opening; forgotten neighborhoods are popping up; and new jobs are being created. At the same time, however, rents are rising to high and unsustainable levels, as is the overall cost of living for permanent residents, while Athens' infrastructure remains incomplete even in the most basic areas, such as pavements, with the otherwise problematic public space of the city being given over to all kinds of private, commercial use.
But what is the reality of Athens today, behind the windows of hotels and cafes, beyond the foreign publications that present it as the ideal combination of chaos and history, beach and art? Athens is constantly changing and receiving people and their worlds, shaping and being shaped by them. Athens is travel and escape, experiences and emotions, smells and tastes, photo clicks and Instagram poses; it is beauty and ugliness together, happy moments and misery.
Fourteen artists present their response to this question in various media, answering an open call put out by FokiaNou Art Space. Participants: Neva Bergemann, Sofia Charoni, Mary Cox, Panagiotis Ferentinos, Sidan Ghazi, Constantina Halkias, Maria Karassavidou, Panos Liapis, Christos Movidis, Despoina Pantazi, Geeta Roopnarine, Stephanie Sampson, Stella Sevastopoulos, and Kiveli Zachariou.

Jim Kassavetis Quartet & Gilad Atzmon Live At Theatre Of The No
THEATRE OF THE NO, Athens' first English-speaking theatre, presents the “Jim Kassavetis Quartet”.
On Saturday, January 18, at 10:30 PM, 16-year-old talented artist Jim Kassavetis, one of the rising stars of jazz known for his exceptional technique and innovative style, joins forces with internationally acclaimed saxophonist Gilad Atzmon.
Gilad Atzmon, renowned for his dynamic fusion of modern jazz with Eastern musical influences, has collaborated with legends such as Pink Floyd, Paul McCartney, and Robert Wyatt. Wyatt himself has called Atzmon "the greatest living musician on the planet" (The Guardian).
Jim Kassavetis will lead the quartet, supported by Periklis Trivolis on bass and Panagiotis Thema on drums. Together, they promise an unforgettable performance as part of the “NO, Jazz Saturdays” series.

FokiaNou Art Space Presents: Erosion & Renewal
FokiaNou Art Space presents the two-person exhibition “Erosion & Renewal” with works by Fay Anagnostopoulou and Stella Sevastopoulos - an exhibition with contrasts and connections. Anagnostopoulou explores Athenian urbanism, while Sevastopoulos is inspired by nature and culture, yet both artists focus on the way that time, the elements, or even the human hand, intervene on surfaces and environments, evolving them into something new. Anagnostopoulou’s urban walls speak of inner-city life’s intriguing erosions and contrast with Sevastopoulos’s ancient walls, with traces of plant motifs, and with her focus on the natural environment’s regenerative nature. However, texture and color play an important role in both these artists’ works. Furthermore, they both explore a similar, palimpsestic approach, one which involves adding layers of acrylic paint to the canvas, as well as other mediums and techniques. Α kind of editing process via layering.
Fay Anagnostopoulou studied Architecture and Advertising at the University of Minnesota, and attended Abstract Art seminars at the Art League of Houston, Texas. She has worked at the Architectural Office of Meyer, Scherer & Rockcastle in Minneapolis, as well as in the fields of Architectural Design and Press Promotion at Progressive Architecture in the same city. She started painting in 2004, leaving the field of architecture and advertising. In 2008, she moved back permanently to Athens, Greece. Today she continues her search through the field of Abstract Painting.
Stella Sevastopoulos (Στέλλα Σεβαστοπούλου) was born and raised in London. She studied Art, English Literature, and History of Art at Harrow College of Art, Lancaster University and Reading University. She moved to Athens in 1994, has worked as a freelance journalist for various publications, and was Arts Editor at the ‘Athens News’ newspaper. She writes/runs the site ‘Art Scene Athens’. She has been creating art throughout her life, but started exhibiting her work in 2018, and has developed her artistic process in both abstract and representational directions. She has participated in over 30 group exhibitions and has had two solo exhibitions.

Sleepover At The Industrial Gas Museum
The beloved event "A Night at the Museum" makes its triumphant return to the Industrial Gas Museum, this time embracing a more adventurous travel theme. "We come from afar" to spend the night inside the historic kerosene factory! Young and old alike, pack your bags for the most thrilling sleepover to hit Technopolis of the Municipality of Athens! From Saturday afternoon on February 24th until the following morning on February 25th, families with children aged 7–11 will embark on an extraordinary journey through space and time, engaging in four unique educational activities and plenty of playful fun!
The adventure begins on Saturday at 18:00, just as night descends, with families participating in a captivating exploration game crafted by the BMF team. Amidst the industrial backdrop of the museum, visitors will collectively delve into the machinery, stories, and materials imported from distant lands that have been collected at the gas plant. Guided by a rare map, the mission for young and old explorers is to traverse the farthest corners of this historic factory!
The exploration stops include vibrant music and dance experiences. The Cultural Center of African Art and Cultures, ANASA, will transport visitors to the African continent through a rhythm workshop and music session where participants of all ages will harness the power of their bodies and voices to explore the rhythms and instruments of West African dance traditions.
The first day concludes with a movie screening and a cozy sleepover set up within the museum. The following day kicks off with an energetic breakfast, setting the stage for a morning filled with artistic creation workshops where children become cartographers of their imaginative worlds. Meanwhile, adults will enjoy a guided tour of the Industrial Gas Museum, getting acquainted with the rich history of the old gas factory and its profound connection to the neighborhood of Gazi and the broader history of Athens.

2nd Independent Film Festival Of Athens
Prepare to experience the vibrant world of independent cinema as the 2nd Athens Independent Film Festival, KINO ATHENS, returns from March 1st to 10th, 2024. This eagerly anticipated event promises to captivate audiences with eighty thought-provoking films spanning various genres and originating from every corner of the globe. Hosted at venues such as Technopolis, Serafio City of Athens, the Μichael Cacoyannis Foundation, and the French Institute of Greece, the festival proudly operates under the esteemed patronage of the European Parliament.
Audiences can anticipate an eclectic lineup, including competition sections, workshops, masterclasses, DJ sets, and other engaging activities. Screenings will be presented with Greek and English subtitles, ensuring accessibility for all.
The heart of the festival beats strongest at the Μichael Cacoyannis Foundation, where the main competition section will take center stage. There, audiences will be treated to the nominated films for the LUX 2024 Audience Award, presented by the European Parliament and the European Film Academy in collaboration with the European Commission and the Europa Cinemas network.
The Award Ceremony, featuring the presentation of the Large and Small Golden Deer by a distinguished jury, is scheduled for Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 19:00.

Greek National Opera Presents Die Walküre
The Greek National Opera makes history with the grand premiere of Richard Wagner's masterpiece "Die Walküre," presented for the first time ever in its repertoire. This extraordinary production, in collaboration with the Royal Danish Opera, comes to life on stage from March 10th, featuring six captivating performances at the Stavros Niarchos Hall. Under the baton of conductor Roland Kluttig and the direction of John Fulljames, this monumental opera, made possible by the generous support of the Stavros Niarchos Foundation, promises an unforgettable experience.
"Die Walküre" marks a significant milestone as the inaugural Wagnerian performance in the Greek National Opera's new home at the SNFCC. Part of Wagner's renowned tetralogy, "Der Ring des Nibelungen," this opera stands out for its compelling narrative and mesmerizing music. Wagner's visionary composition, inspired by northern European legends and deeply rooted in societal critique, offers a profound exploration of power dynamics and human relationships.
Director John Fulljames brings a fresh perspective to the timeless tale, setting the opera in a fictional universe that resonates with contemporary themes. With a stellar creative team, including associate director Johanne Holten, set and costume designer Tom Scutt, and lighting designer D. M. Wood, the production promises to captivate audiences with its innovative approach.
Leading the orchestra is distinguished German conductor Roland Kluttig, renowned for his expertise in Wagnerian repertoire. Kluttig's dynamic interpretation, coupled with the exceptional vocal talents of the cast, elevates the performance to new heights.
The production features world-class singers in the demanding principal roles, including Stefan Vinke as Siegmund, Petros Magoulas as Hunding, Tommi Hakala as Wotan, Allison Oakes as Sieglinde, and Catherine Foster as Brünnhilde. Clean Monday At The Stavros Niarchos Park
The Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center is celebrating Koulouma with songs and dances from all parts of Hellenism.
On Monday, March 18, we ring in Lent and Spring with kites and loads of fun and imagination! From 12.00 to 15.00, Professor of Ethnomusicology Lambros Liavas is curating and presenting at the Great Lawn a panorama of Greek traditional music and dance, in an open invitation for all to participate in the ritual of the traditional feast.
An incomparable pundit of the codes of Greek traditional music, boasting several studies, academic papers, and extensive travel throughout Greece, Lambros Liavas is calling on us to see off the three weeks of the Apokries in a time-honored authentic manner. Carnival mimic mixes together with kalamatiano, kagelia, and tsamiko; pogonisio from Epirus, syrto from Macedonia, zonaradiko from Thrace; hasapiko from Constantinople; karsilama from Smyrna; pentozali from Crete; and ballos from the islands.
The tone is set by traditional brass instruments played by the renowned Valkanis Brothers Brass Band from Florina, as well as by the dynamic musical group Eptasimo, featuring singers Ilias Gakos and Marianthi Lioudaki.
Also participating in the lineup are Pontic lyra player Ilias Yfantidis and Cretan lyra player Manolis Bountalakis with his band. The dance group of the Pontian Association Argonautai Komninoi (led by: Kostas Savvinidis) is inviting us to join in the dance circle!
