The 3rd Athens Irish Festival is opening its doors 24th-26th of May - step into a world of green and magic! A 3-day celebration of music, dance and art, dedicated to Ireland. You will find us in a new location , green as it is fitting and very accessible through the metro.

On Saturday 25th May we start early with music and dance games for children, inspired by Irish customs, facilitated by experienced Eleni Geraki. After that, we will journey to Ireland, Scotland and the Appalachian mountains with songs of love, exile, the sea and nature by Curfá Gaelic- Nordic Choir, followed by an all female Irish Ensemble with Clíodhna Begley playing the viola, Maëlla Roué Demians from Brittany playing the flute and Siobhan Butler dancing Sean Nós . Then, Irial O’Ceallaigh will enchant us with traditional Sean Nós singing, with musical backing from Caoimhín Ó Fearghail. Saturday will end with all of our Irish guests going up on stage for a unique and celebratory Irish fiesta. Musicians that will appear: Aidan Connolly, Shane Meehan,Clíodhna Begley, Caoimhín Ó Fearghail, Dom Keogh, Irial O’ Ceallaigh, Patrick Egan, Liam McGoniggle, Maëlla Roué Demians and Siobhan Butler will dance Sean Nós. We will hear the atmospheric polyphonic folk group Tale Tellers and right after we fill the park with the sounds of community and singing from their Irish repertoire, before the deep and entrancing Celtic/Scandinavian music of Athens-based band Sólastas (Labrini Astrid Andersson Gioti: vocals,nyckelharpa, repertoire, Becka Wolfe: violin, viola, vocals, Antonis Pantazis: Irish mandolin, mandola, vocals, Orestis Gargoulakis: flute, tin whistle, vocals, John Tikof: guitar, vocals) and ending with a second Ensemble of our Irish guests (Aidan Connolly, Pádraig Keane, Fergus McGorman, Clíodhna Begley).
Finally, on Sunday 26th May, the last day of the Festival once again starts with an enticing all female polyphonic folk group, the Samodivas who love medieval, celtic and world music. After this, we will hear the deep and entrancing Celtic/Scandinavian music of Athens-based band Sólastas, created by ethnomusicologist Labri Giotti who sings and plays a unique instrument, the nyckelharpa. Upbeat quintet Noriana, the name of a fairy, will take the stage afterwards and treat us to jigs and reels entwined with their own fresh musical idiom. The festival closes with another Irish Ensemble: Shane Meehan playing the fiddle, τον Liam McGonnigle on the accordion, Dom Keogh beating his bodhran and Siobhan Butler dancing Sean Nós.
Throughout the festival, our Artisan’s Market will feature a range of stalls where you can find a variety of uniquely-crafted designs, prints, artefacts, jewellery and enchanting items. This year, we are joined again by Soul Twinkles Publications who are presenting an Irish version of their Role-Playing Game ‘Mythic Revolutions’.
In keeping with the Bardic tradition of Ireland, guests will have the opportunity to read fairytales at our signature ‘Nook of Stories’ with a few…feathered additions. They can go on a treasure hunt around the park to find our hidden stories and also trace the Fairy Path!
There are also educational workshops of singing, dance and musical instruments to choose from, on Saturday and Sunday. They will take place on festival grounds and have a small donation that goes directly to the Irist artists. Reservations are required.

Nestled in the vibrant Panormou area, right next to the serene Kapaps Park, lies a hidden gem that has been captivating hearts and changing lives since October 2013. Myrtillo Café, more than just a place to grab a delicious coffee, is a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of community.
A Café with a Mission
Myrtillo isn’t your typical café. It’s a Social Cooperative Enterprise with a Special Purpose, designed to integrate vulnerable groups into the labor market. Established in 2013, Myrtillo has become a cornerstone of inclusivity and empowerment in Athens. With 16 dedicated employees, 13 of whom come from vulnerable backgrounds, the café embodies the spirit of resilience and collective responsibility.
Walking into Myrtillo, you’re greeted by a warm, cozy ambiance that immediately feels like home. The staff, baristas, waiters, food preparers, and general employees, work together seamlessly, each contributing to the café’s unique charm. We met Michalis, the soul of service, and Aris, a kind soul who has been welcoming guests with open arms since day one. Their genuine warmth and hospitality make every visitor feel like family.
More Than Just Coffee
During our visit, we were treated to freshly made coffee, accompanied by two delightful little biscuits. The experience was enhanced by the café’s inviting atmosphere, perfect for unwinding and connecting with others. As we savored our drinks, we couldn’t help but notice the joyful interactions around us. A couple with their child and dog, an older couple enjoying their time together—everyone seemed to know the employees by name, a testament to the close-knit community Myrtillo has fostered.

The café regularly hosts seminars, courses, live concerts, book presentations, and exhibitions, thanks to the generosity of student volunteers, interns, artists, and specialists. The Athletic Coup was born out of a desire to uncover the hidden gems of the athletic world, including motivational amateur athlete stories and niche sports.
Through the art of film, the film festival brings to life the passion, dedication and triumphs of athletes from all walks of life, inspiring audiences to dream big and strive for greatness.
After a year of selecting films from around the world, the first edition of the festival is now announced to take place in Athens, Greece on May 21, 2024. The partnering venue is at the prestigious Technopolis City of Athens, an old gasworks plant in the center of Athens that has been transformed into one of the most renowned cultural hubs in the city.

Sebastien Bellin, a former professional basketball player, is on his way to New York, departing from Brussels Airport. As he was receiving his boarding pass, a bomb exploded in the Brussels airport. As he runs toward security, a second bomb explodes a few feet away. Bellin nearly died in a terrorist attack on March 22, 2016.

Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima in Athens - Documentary
Vanderlei Cordeiro de Lima was supposed to win the gold medal at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. However, while leading the marathon after 35 km at the 2004 Summer Olympics, he was attacked on the course. He returned to Athens for the 2023 marathon. This documentary, produced exclusively for The Athletic Coup, chronicles his relationship with Athens and the marathon.

Every year, 200 runners brave the cold, glaciers and trails of Nepal's Khumbu massif to meet at Everest Base Camp (5300m) and take part in the world's highest marathon.

The film follows their preparation, the 11-day trek to base camp and the race on D- Day, along with testimonials from athletes around the world and interviews with the organizers of this legendary event.

Children aged 6-11 explore the wonderful world of animals through educational programs, creative games, unique workshops, and many amazing activities that will make this summer unforgettable!
Are you ready for an unforgettable summer full of adventure? The city's most beloved Summer Camp returns once again, hosted by the Industrial Gas Museum at Technopolis, City of Athens, to offer children aged 6 to 11 the coolest summer experience filled with joy, knowledge, imagination, and entertainment.
Starting Monday, June 17, and running for 4 exciting weeks (weekdays), our young friends will have the opportunity to enjoy a series of thrilling activities in the safe indoor and outdoor spaces of the Industrial Gas Museum, creating indelible memories of a unique summer "vacation" in the heart of the city!
This year, children will be inspired by the magical world of animals. Each week, they will discover creatures of all kinds through educational programs, art workshops, exploration and mystery games, theatrical games, walks to cool spots in the city, and much more!
The program is designed by the team of the Industrial Gas Museum in collaboration with cultural organizations, artists, actors, and experienced educators, promoting environmental awareness, as well as love and respect for animals.
Daily Schedule Activities begin at 08:00 AM and conclude at 04:00 PM, with each week dedicated to a unique theme from the animal kingdom, making every day special and unforgettable:

Retiring In Greece: A Comprehensive Guide
Retiring in Greece is a dream for many, and with its stunning landscapes, rich history, and vibrant culture, it's not hard to see why. But before you pack your bags and head for the Aegean, it's essential to understand the legalities and practicalities involved in making Greece your retirement destination.
Legalities Around Retiring in Greece
Retiring in Greece isn't just about finding the perfect villa overlooking the Mediterranean; there are legal hoops to jump through too. According to Article 20 of the Law on Immigration and Social Integration (4251/2014), citizens of third countries (non-EU countries) can apply for a Greek residence permit based on independent income or funds from outside the country. This income can stem from retirement benefits, pensions, property rents, savings, or grants. Also, non-EU citizens require a three-month entry visa known as the “D” type visa. This visa can be obtained by visiting the Greek consulate in your home country and providing the necessary documents.
EU citizens, as well as citizens of Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, or Switzerland, have a more straightforward process. They don't need any visa to retire to Greece.
Who Can Apply?
Non-EU citizens with sufficient resources to cover their living expenses can apply for a two-year residence permit. Accompanying family members can also obtain personal residence permits, provided the primary applicant meets the financial requirements.
EU citizens have the right to reside in Greece without needing a residence permit. However, they must register with the local authorities if they plan to stay for more than three months.
Sufficient Income
The minimum income required is €2,000 per month for non-EU citizens, with additional percentages added for spouses and children (20% for the spouse and 15% for each child). Alternatively, For non-EU citizens, proof of at least €24,000 in a bank is required. EU citizens must demonstrate they have adequate resources to support themselves and their family members during their stay in Greece.
Duration of the Residence Permit
The residence permit is initially issued for two years and can be renewed every two years thereafter for both EU and non-EU citizens.
Access to the Labor Market
It's important to note that this type of residence permit does not grant access to the labor market for either EU or non-EU citizens.

The Greece Golden Visa
A convenient and popular way for non-EU citizens to acquire permanent residency in Greece is through the Greece Golden Visa Program. Launched in 2013, this program offers permanent residency through an investment in the Greek real estate market. For a minimum investment of €250,000, individuals can become permanent residents of Greece, with the opportunity to apply for citizenship after seven years.
Golden Visa holders also enjoy visa-free travel in the Schengen Zone, providing the freedom to explore neighboring countries.
Taxes in Greece for Retirees
Taxation is a significant consideration for retirees relocating to Greece. Greece's tax laws offer favorable rates for foreign pensioners, with a flat 7% tax rate on foreign-sourced income for ten years after becoming a Greek tax resident.

Greece boasts a comprehensive healthcare system, offering both public and private options. While public healthcare is available to residents with a valid residence permit, private healthcare provides more advanced services and shorter waiting times, making it a popular choice for retirees.

The Acropolis Museum Celebrates International Museum Day
Get ready for an exhilarating weekend as the Acropolis Museum joins in the festivities of International Museum Day on Saturday, May 18, 2024, and Sunday, May 19, 2024!
Saturday, May 18, 2024: On this special day, the museum will throw open its doors from 9 in the morning until 8 at night, welcoming everyone with free admission. Plus, the second-floor restaurant will keep its doors open until midnight (for reservations, dial 210 9000915). As is customary on Saturdays, visitors can indulge in the thematic presentation "A Saturday at the Museum with 20+1 Masterpieces." It's a journey through the museum's exhibition spaces where myths, legends, rites, traditions, historical landmarks, and human stories are transformed into art, weaving a unique experiential tapestry.

Sunday, May 19, 2024: On Sunday, the museum maintains its open-door policy from 9 in the morning until 8 at night, with regular admission fees applying. The restaurant will also be operating during the same hours. Additionally, in line with this year's International Museum Day theme "Museums, Education, and Research," families with children aged 6-12 will embark on an adventure within the exhibition spaces titled "A Mystery... in Need of Solution." The little museum enthusiasts take on the role of detectives, aided by their guardians and museum archaeologists, as they seek the solution to a fictional mystery that will save the celebration of the Panathenaic Festival. Learning intertwines with play as the Panathenaea and the myth of the Gigantomachy come to life, unfolding all their dimensions and symbolism, turning the museum into a realm of entertainment.
Times: 10 AM and 1 PM.
Duration: 90 minutes.
Cost: Admission ticket for adults and free admission for children is mandatory.
Participation instructions: Registration in the program before ticket purchase is recommended. Group registrations (more than 10 people) are not accepted. Up to 30 visitors per presentation.

FokiaNou Art Space Presents “Fluidity”
FokiaNou Art Space is pleased to present “Fluidity”, an exhibition in which two artists seamlessly traverse realms of reality and imagination, one through a combination of analog and digital photography and video, and the other through intricate pencil drawings on wood sculptures.
Bourbou’s ongoing photography project, entitled “ILLUSION, or the eighth place”, inspired by Fernando Pessoa’s The Book of Disquiet, imagines realistic landscapes by the sea through the prism of utopia. Some works are hand-printed; others are digitally processed in high contrast and some use double figures, collage, ink and acrylics. Pappas’ sketches portray the ephemerality and immutability of existence through limbs and visages melting like butter, fluid contours and distortions. His two and three-dimensional works serve as a metaphor for rejuvenation and metamorphosis.

Maria Bourbou was born and grew up in Athens. She studied Photography at the Center of Study and Practice of Photography in Athens and Video Art at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Residing abroad for many years (Luxembourg, Madrid, Lisbon and Vienna), her work has been shown internationally and is held in many private and public collections.
Dionisios Pappas grew up in Chalkida but is currently based in Athens, having completed postgraduate studies in History and Archeology at the Athens University of Applied Sciences, and later at the Athens School of Fine Arts. He has exhibited widely both in Greece and abroad, in addition to creating works in public spaces.
FokiaNou Art Space is an artist-run project space in the intimacy of a small apartment in an old building in the center of Athens. The space encourages collaborative creative efforts between Greek and foreign artists, thereby promoting and supporting the local art community. The space hosts exhibitions, workshops and projects under the direction of two artists, Mary Cox and Panagiotis Voulgaris.
